Chi Onwurah, MP for Newcastle Central, has launched an action plan to deal with rubbish, fly-tipping and litter in Newcastle Central. Working with Newcastle Council, Northumbria Police, Community Groups and constituents Chi has put together a 15- point plan which sets out the actions and processes which are already in place as well as ambitions and plans for the future.
The plan covers a range of different aspects of litter, fly-tipping, rubbish and waste issues in the constituency, from recycling to enforcement as well as education and ways to improve the area.
Chi Said:
“Rubbish is one of the issues constituents raise with me most often and one which affects the mental and physical well-being of so many as well as the appearance of our great city. Only by working together can we ensure that our environment is clean and waste is recycled. We have a wonderful city and amazing, diverse communities, I want the way that we take care of each other to be reflected in the way that we take care of our streets.”
“The 15 Point Plan is not an end point, and it is not something that I can deliver alone. What it does is set out how constituents, community groups, public services and the City Council can collaborate to make our shared spaces better for everyone.”
“I will be asking constituents to join me in a Town Hall to see what more can be done – are there more actions which aren’t in the plan?”
