Muster your crews for summer fun! This coming weekend heralds the return of the Beach to the Bridges Shopping Centre in Sunderland. On 23 July, for children age 10 and younger the indoor Beach is the place to be; a Pirate-themed Party is the first event of an enticing programme of ‘seaside’ activities. So, me-hearties, head for the Bridges Beach with your parents and guardians and join in the fun.
Grand pirate-theme party!
From noon to 2pm on Saturday 23 July, with great swash-buckling style there are going to be pirate crafts, seaside games, music, and even: Walking the Plank! It’s going to be a packed session of two hours of fun on the Beach, with the promise of more to come.
And, on Saturday there will be ‘giveaways.’
The Bridges Beach, a great summer choice for grown-ups with children
Karen Eve, Centre Director at the Bridges, believes the 23 July to 4 September Beach will be very popular.
“The beach is always really well attended and it’s a great option for parents who are struggling with what to do with over the summer holidays.
“We’ve put together some fantastic activities which we are sure everyone will enjoy and we’re really looking forward to seeing the Bridges overrun with pirates, mermaids and princesses.”
Every Wednesday between noon and 1.30pm there will be a whole host of fun events for youngsters. From the chance to make a pirate or mermaid treasure chest, to “litter” picking on the beach, to making sea creatures with whatever can be found.
A seaside and sand crafting session on Wednesday 10 August (12 noon – 1.30 pm) will give children the opportunity to decorate their own bucket and spade and then take them home, then the following week on Wednesday 17 August (12 noon – 1.30 pm) there will be an interactive story session and hat making crafts. Perhaps a tiara for a mermaid?
Other activities for Beach-time at the Bridges will include a fish hunt, a pirate picnic and culminating in an end of summer party with games and a special guest on Saturday 3 September.
Beach opening times
The Beach will be open from Monday to Saturday from 9.30am to 4.30pm and on Sundays from noon until 4.30pm.
The first hour of every Sunday – from 11am to noon – has been designated a quiet hour, available only for children with autism or additional needs.
Tickets for the Beach are £2 per child and can be purchased at the Customer Service Desk. The Beach is open to children 10 and under who must be accompanies by a parent or guardian.
Haul up the Blue Peter, all aboard and head for the Bridges. Come storm or tempest, there’s fun to be had on the Beach!
