Scores of reps from mobile phone and fuel companies are ”bombarding” hundreds of local residents across Montagu, Kenton Bar, North Kenton and nearby Central Grange despite each neighbourhood having designated ‘No Cold Calling Zone ‘ status.
Kenton Councillor Stephen Lambert has been contacted by over 18 residents across his Ward over ”uninvited cold callers” hard selling mobile phone contracts, energy and Broad Band. Some residents report being visited four times in one evening!
The companies include EE, Talk Talk, BT and City Fibre and have been reported to the Council’s Trading Standards Team.
Coun Lambert, Chair of the Kenton Committee, said: ‘
‘Every neighbourhood in Kenton is a No Cold Calling Zone with clear signage on many lamp posts and window stickers in household windows. Despite this, we’ve had numberous complaints about uninvited cold calling from people claiming to be from phone and fuel companies.
”Some residents have challenged these individuals which is the right thing to do. But some of these hard-sellers are persistent and claim they are allowed to knock on residents’ doors. This is causing some distress to some of out most vulnerable residents. The bottom line is that cold calling is a banned practice. The law forbids cold callers to knock at homes which display a No Cold Calling sticker.”
The Kenton councillor has reported these ”infractions” to the Trading Standards Team who is taking up the issue with the company bosses and contractors. The Police have also been notified.
