It’s a big day for Big Romance as they return tomorrow with their third single, High on You. Big Romance is a three-piece indie/rock band from Newcastle. The band has ten years experience of working and writing together. With previous releases rocking the North East music scene, such as debut single This Feeling being used as the new walk-out song for South Shields FC and plentiful BBC coverage for sophomore single Weekender, the slacker-rock trio have well and truly cemented their position in the indie scene in the North East

High on You

High on You treads new water for the band with heavy fuzz guitars to contrast luscious swirling soundscapes. Vocalist Dan Frend explores feelings of lockdown blues fuelled by exploring dating life during the recent pandemic and grappling with social isolation.

Compositionally, there’s a shift into a more dynamic style of songwriting, with dreamy melodies being torn apart by snarling guitars and thrashing kit.

Dan comments on writing lyrics for High On You:

“I think there was just this desire to communicate in a time where the ability to physically do so was super limited. I became obsessed with this idea that everyone just existed online now and dating apps were a really weird place to be because of it. It was an odd time but I’m really proud of the opportunity it afforded us by forcing us to find different ways to be creative and really have fun with the writing process. We wanted to write loud music because we missed playing shows and the energy of the song is really geared towards playing live. I think that was the most liberating part of lockdown.”

The song is released on 2 December on all good streaming platforms.
