Newcastle shortlisted for Eurovision 2023

Great news for Newcastle this morning as it was announced that the city is on the shortlist to host Eurovision in 2023. The UK will be hosting the prestigious event after Ukraine, this year’s winner, was unable to hold it due to the ongoing war. Sam Ryder, the UK’s entry came in second place this year.

There is a great sense of celebration in Newcastle today as people reacted to the news.

Councillor Alex Hay said that he was “absolutely ecstatic” that we have been shortlisted to host Eurovision 2023. He looks forward to working with hotels and organisations across the city to bring together the bid and move the process forward.

Councillor Lesley Storey added:

“ And absolutely amazing news today. I had every confidence in the team and absolutely delighted to let you know that we are on that shortlist, and rightly so.

“ I cannot think of a city that is more deserving of reaching its arms around the people of Ukraine and hosting their Eurovision. Absolutely delighted. Thank you everyone.”
