Every so often something crops up which genuinely makes you wonder about the motivation of the modern Conservative Party, in this case so-called “Beergate”. Richard Holden, Tory MP for North West Durham, remember that one who lied on the floor of the House of Commons about Northern Powergrid’s response to Storm Arwen, has been busy briefing against Keir Starmer. Why? Because Keir was acting perfectly legally in April 2021 under the Covid-19 rules which Holden’s own government had imposed and actively chose to break in the process of simply being Tories who seemingly believe that rules don’t apply to them. Holden, let us not forget, actively advised Chris Grayling to say yes to costing the UK Taxpayer £108m for the failed Seaborne Freight Contracts out of Ramsgate in 2019.
The hypocrisy of Richard Holden, MP
Otto English tweeted about Richard Holden breaking the very same rules that he has accused Starmer of breaking:
During the lockdowns Holden also travelled between North West Durham and London every week, despite the Chief-Scientist’s advice, simply to pay homage to his enabler – the same Boris Johnson who has this week lost over 500 Council Seats and chose to dip his wick on Downing Street to avoid Parliament itself to whom he is accountable.
What is the point in having an MP, in North West Durham, who is a government apologist – he has nothing to hide behind apart from his ability to back his own government in ripping £20 per week from those on Universal Credit who need it most to simply survive his own government’s dreadful policies.
