I wrote this on Easter Sunday at the Northumbria Community Easter retreat, where the theme was ‘Selah’, a Hebrew word meaning Pause, Wait, or Listen…

Psalm 2022

In the face of war, my Lord, am I in sorrowing
Of death and destruction, do I despair
For battle-torn lands, do I grieve
Of dispossession, will I lament In the face of terror, my Lord, do I recoil
Against hatred and bigotry, will I cry
Of injury to body and mind, do I wail
From evil and horror, shall I withdraw In the face of pestilence, my Lord, am I prostrate
Of life-sapping illness, am I in fear
For disease and frailty, do I weep
Of mortality, am I afraid SELAH In the face of Jesus, MY Lord, do I trust
HIS faithful visage, will I believe
For his great mercy, do I pray
Of his redemption, live I in hope Chris Humble
